Biked the portion of the Santa Fe Trail from Woodman to Northgate and back. The rains have made some problems on the trail. There are a number of places where the trail has been eroded by channels of water.

For hikers and runners, this is probably not a big issue but for the bike, it could be an issue if you are not paying attention. Along with the washout, it has deposited soft sand in places that could twist the bikes steering. Most of this damage is in hilly spots so it is not always obvious until the last minute and the tendency is to use the momentum of the hill to pick up some speed.

A few mud puddles also but easy to avoid.

Yesterday, ran this part of the trail again and it looks like there is even more erosion. The gullies are getting deeper. I do not expect with the current crisis in budgets for the city and county that this problem will be fixed soon. I am not sure how funding for maintenance works for trails.

To my surprise, there has been some work done on the erosion on the trail between Woodmen and Ice Lake.

I had figured with the budget woes, it would be a while before anything was done but I stand corrected. Fill was put into the washouts and a blade was run over a number of sections to level things out.

thanks....
