With all the rain we have been having I was expecting the Falcon Trail to be in worse condition than what I found there. I was only on the section on the west side of the Academy but I did not find any significant washout or mud. There were a few low lying places that had small mud area but nothing that could not be avoided. None of those mtn bike riders who pass by seemed to have any mud on the bikes so I would expect the conditions I saw could be applied to the rest of the trail.
Finally back to visit the Springs. I went east for the first time on the Blodgett AFA trail, downhill from the water tank and the trail was good as well, until I hit the area by Woodmen Valley, mostly wet vegetation hanging into the trail. Noticed an old train caboose behind one of the houses.

Hi Chris,
I see you show from Elmhurst,IL so welcome to the Springs. Chicagoland area has some great running trails and a run along the lakefront is always a plus. Great trails through the forest preserves especially along the DesPlaines river but learned to not stop else the mosquitoes would eat me alive. I am originally from Prospect Heights and Glenview so am partial to the area.
Mosquitoes are very bad this year in the midwest. Like the Springs, we've had a lot of rain. Unfortunately, I only get to visit Colorado Springs as a tourist. I have to go back sometime.
